Types of camera shots

To start with our media project we definitely needed to know the incorporation of the different shot types and the different shot angles. Different angles can how powerful a character can be and along with that, they can impact how the audience visualizes the plot and characters.

This is an example of a close-up shot that I took to show the vivid colours and emotions that close-up shots can bring.

Lighting

This lesson was especially interesting as we learnt about how lighting is vitally important. It can bring out the emotions of characters and differentiate night and day time.

Horror Movie

In this lesson, we saw a short horror movie, so we could see the behind the scenes of the thriller and horror features of the film. Later on, we shot a short horror movie where we got the idea of impact and creating tension by using our setting (a school setting) and making it into a dark creepy hallway. We started filming by flickering the lights, setting the area as if it were part of an eerie place, and adding additional sound effects.

In the following link, you can view the horror aspect that we created:

Rules of Thirds

This was our first practical lesson where we learnt the rule of thirds. This helped in the understanding of media productions and why most shots are so impactful and intricate. This helped me learn some components of media that I didn't have an idea of.

In the following images, it can be seen that the bottle is not centered rather it is focused on one of the thirds.

Edit: We learn later on that this specific rule is used pretty much in every film/television series and it is impactful to the audience.

Audience Research

After we were done, there were a few people like family, friends and classmates to review our film opening. There is always room for improv...
