Character Profiles

 For the guy:

For the first scene, we wanted to show him as a mature businessman who knows what he's doing. He's in formal attire to show him as a confident, different person in a way (to show that time has changed and with time, he's matured).

For the second and third scenes, it's a flashback so we show the guy as an immature person who isn't really bothered by time (like the shot where he just stares at his pen like he's waiting for something to happen). He's a laidback stereotypical late teen to early twenties guy who seems like he wants to just to live his best life.

For the girl:

For the first scene: We show the girl as suspicious and wearing all black to symbolise mystery and POSSIBLY death. We don't know any specific details because at this point we don't want to give away her intentions, whatever they are.

For the second and third scenes, she's in a rush, ready to tackle her dreams. She comes back to get her books and makes sure she isn't forgetting anything. Unlike the male lead, she's careful and seems like she wants everything to go to plan (she's career-focused).

Practice Shots

Before we start shooting or planning anything else, we had to practice the shots and see what we were doing wrong/right. This was vital as we then had to use these shots to help us with the shots in our actual filming days.  This is an example of what one of our practice shots looks like.

Planning the script :)

In our script planning, when we had already come up with the idea, we decided to plan the script where we expanded on our idea.

To expand on, we decided to add a part where the characters are shown getting ready simultaneously with split-screen. We took inspiration from the music video of "We don't talk anymore (feat. Selena Gomez ) - Charlie Puth " We wanted to show them getting ready simultaneously so that skills of editing can be seen as well as the time will be shortened.

So the idea altogether was something along the lines of:
1. In a field setting, during the daytime, there's a guy who's on a phone call. There's a girl in a black hood(suspicious) walking towards him with a  weapon(a knife).
2. She walks towards him and... STAB.
3. At this point in time we don't know any details about the characters nor do we know if the guy is dead or alive. The girl stands over him as he lays (possibly dead).
4. There's a flashback to a year ago when both the characters are getting ready.
5. They get ready and the gurl is in a rush so she bumps into him (and they meet for the first time).
This was to intrigue the audience and create an enigma as well as an action code (because of the knife).
6. They meet and the camera dolly up's into the sky with the title.

Coming up with the idea of the film opening

For a 2-minute movie opening, it's important to plan everything through. The first step was to come up with the idea. We wanted it to intrigue our audience as well as create enigma throughout.

Our initial, basic idea was a girl stabbing a guy, then a flashback to a year ago, when they met leaving the audience, intrigued and in awe, wanting to know what happened.

"starts with one of them being stabbed in the back and collapsing with the other standing behind them. Flashback to when they met"

Audience Research

After we were done, there were a few people like family, friends and classmates to review our film opening. There is always room for improv...
